Spring Sports Awards

The Spring Sports Award Presentations honored outstanding achievements in athletics and sportsmanship. PC's teams each put up a solid season.

Softball won the Inter-Ac with an undefeated league record and only two losses in the season. The team beat Baldwin on Thursday – handily – to advance to the semifinals of the PAISAA tournament on Saturday. Competing in the quarterfinals against Mercersberg Academy, Baseball lost a heartbreaker in extra innings. See the full story on both games here.

As the banquet was in progress, Penn Charter's speedy crew duo Sally Stanley and Kelsey White raced at Nationals in Ohio. The pair oared to second in their heat and will advance.

Penn Charter Varsity Boys Tennis Coach and English teacher Philip Stevens delivered a special Inter-Academic League honor. All the tennis coaches in the league nominate an outstanding sportsman, teammate, player and person. This is the sixth time the award has been given to a Penn Charter athlete since its inception in 2001, more often than any other school.

The deed on the award reads, "Awarded to that high-profile player in the Inter-Ac who has for years exhibited, both on and off the court, the very highest ideals of sportsmanship and has become a model for all others in the league."

The award was given to senior Nirvikar Singh. "Our senior co-captain has played varsity tennis at a really high level for the past four years," Stevens said.

"Whether it was in the weight room, during our conditioning sessions in the squash courts or on the court during matches, Nirvikar has represented himself and Penn Charter so well over the past four years. With a record of 15-3 over the past two seasons, our #3 singles players could be counted on to give his opponents all they could handle, and then some. He also managed to grab a share of the third place trophy in the league doubles championship last week with his partner Greg Zlobinsky."

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
