Summer Sports Update

Three members of Penn Charter's softball team hit the big stage Tuesday, playing for the Inter-Ac League in the first round of the Carpenter Cup Classic.

The I-A squad topped Philadelphia PCCAF, 6-4, then lost to Suburban One/Bicentennial, 13-2.

Rising junior Brigitte Gutpelet was a whirlwind, going a combined 4-for-6 with two triples, a steal and three runs scored. Classmate Faith Fenton went 3-for-5 and pitched a scoreless inning in Game 1. Rising soph Ava Nicolucci recorded the Game 1 win. Though she allowed four runs over four innings, only one was earned. She also made a Game 2 mound appearance.

In the boys CCC baseball, the Inter-Ac/Indy squad advanced to the quarterfinal round and dropped an 11-2 decision to Delaware County. Rising junior Mike Siani went 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI, rising senior Brendan Cellucci allowed one run (unearned) in 1 1/3 innings and Kenny Bergmann OPC '16 was the starting catcher.

Also recently, rising junior Mason Williams and rising soph Ryan "Pooch" Holmes are featured in this story (second section) about a basketball team camp and the girls hoops squad got off to a 2-1 start in a summer league at Gwynedd Mercy.

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
