Whitley Swims for Team USA at Pan Pacs
Whitley Races at Junior Pan Pacific Games in Hawaii
Junior Reece Whitley swam at the Junior Pan Pacific Games in Maui last week. His coach, Crystal Coleman, was selected to be a member of the men's coaching staff for Team USA.
One of the two fastest Americans in the 100m prelims, Reece raced to bronze in the 100m breaststroke A Final with a time of 1:00.95, just four hundredths of a second behind the second place finisher. Only two swimmers from each country can race in the A Final, assuming their race times in the prelims are among the top eight times, so the fastest pair seed to the A Final, and the third and fourth fastest from a single country race in the B Final. After swimming a great race in the preliminaries, but coming in just behind the top two American finishers, Reece finished first in the B Final with a time of 2:12.58. Great job, Reece!
Team USA is made up of 20 women and 20 men, between the ages of 13-18, who swam a qualifying time at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Competing countries in the Pan Pacific Games include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Suriname and several others.
