Football Tops SCH, Golf 2nd at States
It's always nice to see a team bounce back, especially impressively, from a difficult loss — and that happened Saturday as Penn Charter played Inter-Ac game No. 2 of the 2016 football season.
After last week falling to Haverford School, 21-20, in overtime, the Quakers stormed to a 49-27 triumph at SCH Academy.
Coach Tommy Coyle's squad ch-chinged its way to 480 scrimmage yards thanks largely to sophomore running back Edward Saydee (28 carries, 213 yards) and senior quarterback Mike "Neeko" Hnatkowsky (12-for-15, 179 yards). Saydee scored four total TDs while Hnatkowsky passed for two and ran for another.
Senior Chris Tucker, a wideout, got things started with a 35-yard scamper off a jet sweep. Soph tackle Ronnie Ross starred on defense by involving himself in a sack and two TFLs.
Above, Luke Stansfield (L) and Terence Thompson celebrate the former's TD on an 18-yard reception. More football photos.
Also Saturday, PC golf finished second among nine teams in the PAISAA tourney at Chester Springs Golf Club.
Each team entered four players and the top three scores counted. PC totaled 242 points thanks to juniors Brian Isztwan (78, 7th place), Noah Schwartz (81, 12th and Matt Barkann (83, 17th). Soph Dylan Topaz (90, 27th) was the fourth participant for the squad, as guided by coach by Travis Larrabee and assistant coach Val Erdmanis – all pictured below.
