Terrific Tuesday for Soccer, Field Hockey

William Penn Charter School Inter-Ac Quaker Philadelphia soccer

Common sense says a team with a man advantage should be able to win. And Penn Charter's boys soccer team did just that . . . eventually.

Tuesday, the Quakers hosted SCH Academy and, due to an ejection, gained an 11-10 edge with 19 minutes remaining in the second half. After failing to convert three golden opportunities, they scored a goal barely 15 seconds into the first of the two, five-minute overtime sessions and wound up claiming a 2-1 victory.

That counter was scored by senior Max Jacobs on a send-it-through-and-hope feed from freshman Anthony "Crab Fries" Ciarrocchi. Jacobs had also scored in the first half off a pass from another frosh, Ryan Bradby. Senior Jay Jennings went the distance in goal.

Girls soccer also notched a 2-1 victory (at Baldwin) and one player twice found the net.

That was junior Gi DeMarco. The assists, in order, went to sophs Emma Maley and Mia Monheit. Playing what coach Darci Borski called "an awesome game" in front of "an outstanding defense," junior goalie Mack Listman made six saves.

Field hockey also traveled to Baldwin and nailed down a 3-1 triumph. The goals were scored by junior Bella Hondros (two) and soph Elisabeth "ER" Ross.
