Squash Takes Two in Season Openers

Penn Charter, squash, Quaker, Philadelphia, independent

Basketball has nothing on squash. In fact . . .Like the hoops squads, which won their season openers on Tuesday, the squash contingents pulled off a girls/boys sweep Thursday. But the Racq Pack was even more dominant.

At PC, under the direction of coach Damon Leedale-Brown, the girls (pictured above on home court) swept Shipley, 9-0. Assistant Peter Lubowitz handled the reins on the road and the result was a 7-2 boys' victory over Conestoga.

For the very young girls squad (no seniors in the lineup), the winners were juniors Gwen Davis, Charlotte Murray, Meredith Bernstein and Chloe Master; sophs Elisabeth Ross, Hatti Specter, Alexa Lenfest and Mia Bezar; and eighth grader Amanda Cowhey. Six of the gals registered three-game sweeps. Master (four points allowed) and the nationally-ranked Ross (six) were especially impressive.

The also-young boys squad (just one senior) received triumphs from senior Reid Kleinman; juniors Marco Rodriguez, Marker Angelakis, Ben Swanson and Soren "57" Heinz; and sophs Rohan Bhambhani and Tom Bradbeer.

Sweeps were recorded by Rodriguez, Angelakis, Bhambhani and Bradbeer.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
