A Winning Friday for Basketball
Basketball Fridays don't wind up much better.
Penn Charter's boys (home) and girls (away) rolled to easy victories, thus getting the weekend off to a terrific start.
Boys basketball swept past King's Christian, a private school in Cherry Hill, N.J., by a score of 60-33 while the girls muffled St. Hubert, a Catholic school in Northeast Philly, 37-20.
Junior Will Samuel, who sniped 4-for-6 on three-pointers, led the boys with 14 points while junior Mason Williams and freshman Ryan "Pooch" Holmes – shown here drawing a foul – halved 22 markers. Showing great chemistry and teamwork, the Quakers racked up 16 assists on 20 field goals. Senior Adam Holland (five) and Holmes (four; he also had a dunk) were the dish-it-good, dish-it-real-good leaders. More photos of the boys' home game.
Girls basketball received eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocks from senior Mireyah "Rey" Davis while freshman Kait Carter mixed nine points, six rebounds and five steals. Senior Julie Webb was also a force, witness her eight rebounds and four blocks.
"It was like an old Catholic League North defensive game for us," noted coach Joe Maguire, who played his high school ball at St. Hubert's brother school, Father Judge.
