Wrestling Takes Home Weekend Prizes

The placing percentage was .875. Can't do much better than that. Saturday, Penn Charter's wrestlers traveled to La Salle College High for an invitational event and seven of the eight entrants came away with prizes.

Junior Alex Koenig, soph TJ Henry and senior Dante DiStefano, a first-year participant, all won their weight classes. Soph Wayne Derkotch and senior David Giorno placed third while frosh Johnny Giuffrida and junior Jordan Steinhouse checked in fourth. Plus, frosh Jess Anderson would have placed third, but had to leave early due to a prior obligation.

Coach Pete Shaifer said Koenig "again looked super in winning the toughest and deepest weight class."

Also Saturday, girls baskeball headed to the Far Northeast for a showcase contest vs. Archbishop Ryan and dropped a 66-58 decision.

Senior Mireyah "Rey" Davis was dynamic with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Kait Carter (13) and senior Julie Webb (10) joined Davis in the double-figures scoring column while Carter claimed eight rebounds.

Coach Joe Maguire said he especially appreciated the efforts of football headliners Mike "Neeko" Hnatkowsky and Luke Stansfield, whose sisters (Lexi and Grace, respectively) are on the team. Neeko handled scorebook duties while Luke provided loud support and even worked the officials  :-).

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
