Friday Wrestling, Boys BKB, Girls Indoor Track

Inter-Ac League action commenced Friday for two of Penn Charter's boys varsity squads and the result was a split.

In the good, ol' Wrestling Room, the Quakers muffled SCH Academy, 41-21.
To the west down School House Lane, at Philadelphia University, the hoopsters fell to Episcopal Academy, 62-47, in the opening tripleheader.

The wrestling wins on the mat were recorded by junior Jordan Steinhouse (pin), freshman Jess Anderson, senior Gene Naumovsky, senior David Giorno and junior Alex Smith (decisions). The visitors were a shade shorthanded, so soph Wayne Derkotch, frosh Matt McGlinchey, junior Evan Wilson and senior Billy Costello picked up forfeit victories.

Penn Charter Boys Basketball 2017 at Philadelphia UniversityJunior Mason Williams (13, three treys), frosh Ryan "Pooch" Holmes (10) and junior Will Samuel (nine) topped the basketball scoring list. See more photos of the hoopsters in action on Flickr.

The girls indoor track team traveled to Haverford College for an invitational. Freshman Sophia Solomon fared the best, placing 12th in the mile with a time of 6 minutes, 5.76 seconds.

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
