Girls Swimming, Boys Squash Dominate

penn charter, inter-ac, squash, quaker

It rarely gets any better. Two Penn Charter varsity squads were thoroughly dominant Thursday.

The squash guys hosted Malvern and cruised to a 9-0 victory. Girls swimming hit the road for a contest vs. Notre Dame and triumphed with ease, 106-63.

Eight of the nine squash players posted 3-0 shutouts. In order from No. 1 through 9, the Quakers’ players were juniors Marco Rodriguez (pictured here) and Marker Angelakis, soph Max Lubowitz, senior Reid Kleinman, frosh Nick Case, soph Rohan Bhambhani, junior Soren “57” Heinz, soph Tom Bradbeer and junior Justin Ko.

Just as impressively, two swimming Quakers recorded . . . let's call them hat tricks plus one. That's right. Ninth grader Marissa Lopez-Ona and junior Madison Freeland were involved in four triumphs.

Lopez-Ona won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke while Freeland captured the 50 and 100 freestyles. Also, both were contributors to winning relays.

PC's other individual firsts went to freshmen Gabby Lopez-Ona (100 butterfly) and Sabrina Shaffer (500 free). Classmate Sam Boyes (100 backstroke) and Gabby Lopez-Ona (200 free) notched seconds.

The girls squash team traveled to SCH without their No. 3, 4 and 5 players, who were out due to injury or illness, and could only play 7, losing 8-1.

Elisabeth Ross won 3-0 at #1 and Gwen Davis played an excellent match going down in a tight four games at #2.

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
