Penn Charter's boys track team again posted solid performances in the Division II portion (lower enrollment schools) of an invitational meet.

In this get-together, held Saturday at Lehigh University, the Quakers earned four Top 5 spots and two others within the Top 10.

The headliners were the Blake brothers, senior Akeem and freshman Akeel. Akeem placed second in the triple jump (44 feet, 10 1/2 inches) and Akeel was third in the high jump (6-0).

Details for other participants: senior Chris Tucker, fourth in long jump (21-0); senior Conrad Williams, fifth in 60-meter hurdles (9.04); junior Matt Barkann, eighth in 400 (53.90); and senior Harold Anderson, eighth in shot put (39-4).

In the girls track competition, senior Marilyn Pease (high jump, 4-10) and freshman Sara Shipon (mile, 5:32.91) qualified for the upcoming Meet of Champions.

Boys basketball played a home game with Cristo Rey and rolled to a 71-43 victory.

Junior Mason Williams provided early momentum, scoring eight points in a 17-6 first quarter while adding seven other stats (four rebounds, one assist/steal/block). He finished with a team-high 13 points. Junior Will Samuel (pictured, on the right, with Justus Sanders showing matching rebounding poses) added 12 points and soph Dylan Topaz, recently promoted to the varsity, finished with nine, as did frosh Ryan "Pooch" Holmes. Penn Charter has provided student athletes with resources to match their talents. On 44 acres, Penn Charter offers its players and fans:

  • five grass playing fields, two synthetic turf fields, one all-weather, eight-lane track, seven tennis courts, 10 squash courts, four basketball courts, and one swimming pool.
  • PC has four buildings designated for athletics: Graham Athletics Center — with the new Blaine A. Steinberg OPC '11 Center for Fitness and Performance  Kline & Specter Squash Center, Ray Dooney Field House, and the Old Gym.
