Track & Baseball, Home & Far Away

Penn Charter's 2017 baseball season has gotten off to a wonderful start.
In their opener Saturday, played at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, the Quakers dumped Brooke (WVa.), 11-0, in five innings.

Seniors Alex Cohen (one inning) and Matt Gorman (three) joined with junior Will Samuel (one) to fire a no-hitter with zero walks and 10 strikeouts. Gorman fanned six and Samuel whiffed all three batters he faced.

PC scored the only necessary run three batters into the game as senior Dom Toso blasted a three-run homer. He finished with four RBI thanks to a sacrifice fly. Senior Brendan Pell notched two RBI while classmate Joey Lancellotti doubled twice, scored thrice.

The track teams competed at Plymouth-Whitemarsh in the Pennsylvania Classic. The Blake brothers, senior Akeem and frosh Akeel, provided the highlight by claiming second and fourth in the triple jump with efforts of 46-1 1/2 and 41-8 3/4, respectively. Akeem added a third in the long jump (21-9) and Akeel was fifth in the high jump (6-0). Soph Patrick Gabor was fifth in the HJ (also at 6-0).

On the track, senior Harper Pollio-Barbee placed seventh in the 800 at 2:05.17. The girls claimed a pair of 11th places: senior Marilyn Pease in the 300 hurdles (54.39) and frosh Jalynn Johnson in the 800 (2:29.85).

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
