Lacrosse Takes Two

Early appearances can be deceiving.

Shortly after Penn Charter's girls lacrosse team began hosting SCH Academy in its Inter-Ac League opener Tuesday, folks couldn't help but wonder if the Quakers' goal total would reach, say, 20.

Thanks to senior Macaul Mellor and soph Emma Wilson, PC racked up two goals in the first 75 seconds. The score reached 3-0 just four minutes into the game as Mellor tallied again.

Thereafter? A decent tilt.

PC won, 14-10. After SCH edged within 12-9 with seven minutes left, senior Courtney Cubbin provided a boost when she zipped downfield and scored on a follow after her original attempt was blocked.

Mellor scored four goals. Cubbin (shown above scoring a late goal), freshman Leah Sax, eighth grader Kaylee Dyer and senior Perri Keehfus contributed two apiece. Sax added two assists and goalie Hayley Hunt made two saves. More photos.

The boys lacrosse team traveled to Upper Dublin and won, 11-8.

Coach Pat McDonough noted, "It was a good chance for a lot of guys who have worked very hard since the season started to get some well deserved playing time."

On the injury trail, senior Mac Wilson is back and junior Terence Thompson is currently unavailable.
