Girls Soccer Nets Dramatic Win

penn charter soccer, girls soccer, inter-ac

The ball spent so much time in Penn Charter's offensive end, it began accepting mail.

So many shots were taking place, you would have thought it was flu season.

From the sideline with maybe seven minutes left, mindful of her team's uniform color and trying to make sure her players did not yield to frustration, coach Darci Spencer hollered, "It's coming, white!"

As in, a goal.

With 19 seconds remaining in Friday's girls soccer game vs. visiting Agnes Irwin, Spencer's prediction became reality.

Junior Emma Maley powered a long corner kick from the right side. Maybe five yards beyond the left post, frosh Janae Stewart came this close to hammering the ball past AI's impressive goalie. And then, on the right side again, not far from that post, senior Giovanna "Gi" DeMarco (above) tucked the ball into the right corner.

Quakers win, 1-0!

The shutout was recorded by senior Mack Listman.

Field hockey also hosted AI and fell by 7-3.

The first half — 6-0 deficit — was rough, but the Quakers regrouped in the second half as goals were scored by soph Avery Myers, frosh Kaylee Dyer and junior Alexa Lenfest. Also, frosh goalie Zora Johnson was strong beyond intermission.

Boys soccer visited SCH Academy and the result was a 1-1 tie. Senior Andrew Morris created that score 12 minutes into the first half.
