Happy Holidays for Boys BKB, Wrestling

penn charter basketball, inter-ad

Eleven games in 26 days. Penn Charter's boys basketball team has certainly been busy to start the 2017-18 season. And rather successful, as well.

Saturday, the Quakers upped their record to 8-3 by claiming a 73-48 win over visiting Freire Charter.

Oddly, they posted only three-pointers and free throws until soph Ryan "Pooch" Holmes scored the first regular field goal on a layup 3:29 before halftime. Holmes finished with 16 points and senior Mason Williams was a shade more productive (19). Eleven Quakers scored and soph Anthony Ciarrocchi earned two points in his varsity debut.

Wrestling competed in a showcase event at Radnor and senior Alex Koeing, well, he REALLY competed. He stormed through his weight class while raising his record to 11-0.

Junior Wayne Derkotch and soph Jess Anderson placed third while senior Jordan Steinhouse went 2-1 before having to withdraw due to a sore shoulder. Soph Matt McGlinchey and junior Sam Shemtov both finished their days with two consecutive wins.

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
