Girls BKB and Wrestling Wrap Up 2017

Like the boys team, Penn Charter's girls basketball squad departed Wildwood, NJ, with a 1-1 record in the two-day Boardwalk Basketball Classic, one of the largest coed basketball tournaments in the nation.

The results order was reversed, however, as the girls entered Saturday's game with a chance to earn a two-game sweep.

Alas, they fell to West Chester Rustin, 55-47, as a slow start (16-6 deficit after one quarter) could not quite be overcome.

Frosh Laila Hamiter (10, 5-for-9 from floor) was the only Quaker to score in double figures while classmate Kait Hnatkowsky grabbed nine rebounds.

The wrestling team headed to Chambersburg for a highly competitive tournament that featured entrants from Pennsylvania, Virigina, West Virginia and Delaware.

Senior Alex Koenig turned a strong second-day performance into a sixth-place finish. Though the result was a loss, he was especially impressive in an overtime battle versus one of Pennsylvania's top wrestlers.

Senior Dante DiStefano also advanced to second-day competition.

Seniors Jordan Steinhouse (OT win) and Luke Mattice and junior Wayne Derkotch picked up valuable experience in Day 1 outings.
