Girls BKB, Boys Squash Bounce Back

Gotta love a nice, next-day bounceback, right? Hey, how 'bout two!?

After suffering defeats Tuesday, Penn Charter's girls basketball and boys squash teams hustled their way into the victory column Wednesday.

The hoopsters topped visiting Baldwin, 53-31. Across School House Lane, the racquet guys edged Lawrenceville School (NJ), 5-4.

Soph Kait Carter was dominant with 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Carmen Williams (10) also scored in double figures while Hayley Hunt (six) and India Barnes (five) helped on the boards; they're all sophs as well. Barnes (four) and Emma Maley/Williams (three apiece) combined for 10 more assists.
Abby Manion, a wildly popular junior sub, created a big-time stir when she powered for a late, three-point play. More photos.

Squash, which had been humbled by Conestoga, 9-0, showed nice early life by seizing three of the first four matches. Those winners were soph Jack Kennedy (No. 9), junior Tom Bradbeer (No. 7) and eighth grader Hyun Su Price (No. 5).
"All three showed excellent discipline and determination," noted coach Damon Leedale-Brown.

Senior Marker Angelakis stormed to a 3-0 win at No. 2, then freshman Ryan Yeatman clinched the win with what Leedale-Brown called a "very competitive and entertaining" four-game triumph at No. 4.
