Weekend Update for Wrestling and Girls BKB

Penn Charter wrestling coach Pete Shaifer wasn't sure what to expect after a rough weekend, but he knows what he received—a positive response for the ages.

"Leaving the gym," he noted, "I asked one of the seniors if we needed a day off to recover and to come back hungrier. His response spoke volumes of the leadership that these seniors have brought to the team. He said, 'We only have 12 days of practice left. We need to make the most of these.' "

PC's next match will take place Friday, 4:30, at Haverford School.
Friday, the Quakers were dominated by Germantown Academy, then spent Saturday in Maryland. They lost to St. Benedict's (NJ), 64-6, and to Good Counsel (MD), 51-18. They beat St. James (MD), 60-12, but as "Shaif" acknowledged, all of that school's prime performers were sick or injured.

Senior Alex Koenig posted the win vs. GA and owned a takedown just 11 seconds into the match. Though senior Dante DiStefano lost, the second-year wrestler continued to impress his coach, as did frosh Max Lentz and junior Sam Shemtov. Soph Matt McGlinchey earned a pin vs. St. Benedict's.

Girls basketball hosted West Catholic Saturday afternoon and wound up on the wrong side of the hyphen, 59-35. The deficit was only five points at halftime.

Soph Kait Carter managed 21 points while classmate Carmen Williams claimed seven rebounds. Junior Emma "Meadowlark" Maley picked up a new nickname after her fancy ball handling almost broke defenders' ankles.

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
