Sophomore Nails Dives at Inter-Ac Champs

Penn Charter's Avery Myers is only a sophomore. But thanks to small splashes, she's already creating big waves as a diver.

Monday at Germantown Academy, Myers claimed third place in the Inter-Ac League's championship diving competition with 261.2 points—and that total is a PC record.

"Avery reached deep within herself and did a spectacular job," said Pat Marsh, who mentors the divers for head coach Brian Hecker. "As this is my fourth season coaching Avery, I would have to say that today was the best she has ever been."

He added, "Her back dive was just short of perfect. Yes, it was crushed. Her reverse dive was also crushed and then we threw in a new dive, an inward 1 1/2 somersault that was nailed."

On the boys side, frosh Henry Langford, who's only in Year No. 2 of diving, placed eighth in what Marsh called "a very crowded and talented field."

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
