New Basketball Coaches Hired

David Bass OPC '88 has been appointed head coach for varsity girls basketball. David brings many years of experience coaching girls basketball, as well as familiarity with Penn Charter’s programs. During the past 10 years, David has been the head girls varsity basketball coach at Abington Friends School. David has a solid record of successful coaching at AFS, where he was an assistant teacher in the lower school. Along with his varsity coaching responsibility, David will be working full-time in Penn Charter’s diversity office and coaching as an assistant for Middle School girls soccer and varsity track. David has been an active coach and leader within the girls program for the Philly Triple Threat, a local AAU program.
Lynard Stewart has been appointed head coach for varsity boys basketball. A graduate of Simon Gratz High School and Temple University, Lynard has several local connections. Last year Lynard was an assistant coach at Hope Charter School and, prior to beginning his high school coaching career, Lynard played professional basketball in Europe for 10 years. Since he graduated from Temple, Lynard has worked with many young players in the area as a clinician and as coach of a number of different camps and summer programs.
I am also pleased to announce that Bill Ellerbee will be working for the athletics department this coming season in the role of senior advisor for our boys and girls basketball programs. Coach Ellerbee is best known in the area as a successful teacher-coach at Simon Gratz High School and as an assistant coach at Temple University.
We are very excited about these changes and wish to welcome these gentlemen to our school. Both coaches are making plans and arrangements to meet with the players in the very near future. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding these coaching changes for our basketball teams.

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
