Drone Camp: Virtual Edition
Drone Camp has moved online this year! Choose between two sessions.
Is your child interested in the dynamics of flight, perhaps becoming a pilot one day? Does he or she like a challenge and enjoy friendly competition? If so, check out Drone Camp, one of our online offerings this summer.
Session 1: June 29-July 2 (no camp July 3)
Session 2: July 27-31
Boys and girls ages 9-13
Deposit required: $200
Space is limited to 10. Minimum of 3 required.
Tim Clarke will direct the camp this summer. He has been teaching physics, mathematics and robotics for over 25 years after double majoring in engineering and computer science in college. He has coached Middle and Upper School robotics teams and taught electives in computer coding, robotics and rocketry. Tim teaches science in Penn Charter's Upper School.
Campers will learn to fly and program a small drone at home. Online instruction and coaching will be mixed with explanatory videos. We will complete different challenges each day. The camper will need a location to fly the drone indoors away from breakable objects. To fly and program the drone, each camper will need access to a smartphone or tablet with the Ryze Tech software installed. Programming will be done with a version of Scratch.
You will need a good place to fly indoors (or outdoors with low wind), a computer (not included in cost of camp) for online meetings using Google Meet, a smartphone or tablet (not included in cost of camp), and the Ryze Tech Tello Boost Combo drone ($147.25, not included in cost of camp). Order your drone before camp.
