Program Highlights
Campers will work collaboratively to explore the most elemental of all musical skills: rhythm! They will learn how to play hand drums, body percussion, develop their drumstick techniques, explore a wide variety of pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments, hone their improvisation abilities, master their internalization of rhythm/timing, learn about the drumming greats of past and present, and work as a group to achieve higher levels of groove! By the end of the week, campers will have developed a strong foundation of rhythmic skill sets to broaden their musical horizons.

Camp Staff: Bradford Schoener

Brad Schoener, director of middle school bands at Penn Charter, will direct this camp. With over a decade and a half of teaching young musicians, Brad has been recognized for performing with and coaching internationally award winning ensembles. In addition to directing all middle school instrumental groups, Brad also teaches the PC percussion ensemble. Brad got his start playing piano and percussion during his primary education and throughout college. As a senior in high school, Brad auditioned for and was selected to represent the state of Pennsylvania as a drumline member of the 2009 All-American Marching Band. Brad toured the country with three different world class drum and bugle corps as a part of Drum Corps International. Upon working with the best educators in the field, traveling tens of thousands of miles, and playing dozens of performances each summer over the span of six years, Brad continued his passion for percussion by teaching. United Percussion World Class Indoor Drumline, as well as the Jersey Surf World Class Drum and Bugle Corps are both groups that benefited from Brad’s mindful and conceptually focused approach to drumming.
